DESIGN
For the initial launch phase of the Traditional Arts project, seven designers, all graduates of The Prince’s School of Traditional Arts, were commissioned to create three designs each on a specified subject. These designs were to be suitable for reproduction on fine bone china, silver and glass. The artists had to research their allotted subject and develop their own original designs, documenting their progress along the way in the form of a 'design diary', showing the history and provenance of each design. The subjects were chosen in collaboration with the School to highlight different areas of traditional Islamic art, from botanical illustration to traditional geometric design.
