ISLIMI

This design is a formal arabesque pattern, emerging naturally from the archetypal geometry of interlocking circles to suggest leaf, flower and tendril. This type of islimi or flowing arabesque pattern invokes the feminine principle of life-giving creativity. This pattern depends for its beauty also upon symmetry and repetition, understood in Classical Islam not just as aesthetic values but as laws fundamental to science, philosophy, history and the natural world as well as to art. It is extremely versatile, the elements working harmoniously together in many different combinations.
