KIRTIM FLOWER
This is one of three designs based on flower motifs drawn from an 11th Century illuminated Islamic manuscript. The manuscript was written in Arabic in Baghdad, then the vibrant cultural and commercial hub of the Islamic world, a meeting point for Greek, Persian, Indian and Arabic cultures. It describes the many medicinal uses for the plants illustrated. The universalised representation of plant forms is common to all the traditional arts, a celebration of the natural world and the divine order it reflects.
